Corticosteroid Therapy in Genotype ST-11 Meningococcal Infections.

Abstract : Corticosteroid treatment for meningococcal disease is debated. We report a high risk of death (odds ratio 4.68, 95% confidence interval: 1.91-11.46; P = 0.001) without corticosteroid treatment when meningococcal disease is provoked by isolates belonging to the hyperinvasive genotype ST-11. Genotypes of meningococcal isolates should be considered with corticosteroids therapy for meningococcal disease.
